Hunger

Hunger

Hunger is a real issue in America. Many people don’t realize or don’t want to admit that children in America go hungry. As an educator, I spend 180 days a year with children. For some of these children, the meals they eat at school are the only meals that they will eat for the day. I was made aware of a student that actually went digging in the trash can for two days looking for food before an adult caught on and was able to assist the child. What happens to these children over the weekend? What can be done for the other 185 days a year? I will propose legislation that will restructure the federal funding for food programs in schools so that school districts can work with programs like the Backpack Program by Feeding America and not having funding restricted or reduced for providing outside food to children.
